Traceless Materials is a Germany-based bioplastic startup that has developed a patent-pending technology that produces a natural biomaterial called “traceless” as an alternative to plastic. The biomaterial is made from agricultural residues and has a minimal ecological footprint, saving 91% of CO2 emissions and 89% of fossil energy during production and disposal compared to plastic. Traceless is stated to be home-compostable and can be used in various end products, including molded parts, packaging, films, paper coatings, and adhesives. As of September 2023, the company notes that it was constructing its first demonstration plant in Hamburg for its bio-circular alternative material, looking to move to mass-scale capacity by 2024.

In 2022, European fashion retailer C&A partnered with Traceless to develop disposable sock hooks made from Traceless which was introduced at the C&A Store in Altona, Hamburg. Traceless is also in collaboration with Lufthansa, Germany’s largest airline, to use bioplastic for its onboard packaging.
