Player1 Events

Player1 Events is an esports event organizer known for the Insomnia Gaming Festival (IGF), a large-scale UK-based event which includes esports tournaments. Player1 Events has been delivering the IGF for over 20 years, and what was originally designed as a PC-only event, has been adopted for consoles as well.

Player1 Events’ origins can be traced back to Multiplay, a UK-based company which operated an esports and events business along with a digital business which hosted multiplayer servers for games. In 2015 , Multiplay was acquired by UK gaming retailer, GAME, for GBP 20 million (approximately USD 31 million). Subsequently, in 2017, Unity Technologies, a US video game development software provider, acquired the digital half of the business for GBP 19 million (approximately USD 25 million). The esports and events division was rebranded as GAME Esports and Events and later as Player1 Events.

In June 2018, Player1 Events announced that it would be taking the event global with expansion into markets such as the Middle East, South America, and Australia.

In May 2021, Player1 Events was acquired by PE firm, Supernova Capital, for an undisclosed amount. Supernova Capital aims to continue the company’s expansion plans and will resume the event in August 2021 after its one-year hiatus due to the COVID pandemic. Furthermore, the founder of Multiplay Craig Fletcher, who departed the company in 2017, will join Supernova’s executive committee to lead operations.
