Based in Romania, Amadou Leather develops a vegan leather material from mushrooms. The material mimics a suede texture and is grown on recycled sawdust, cultivated through methods used to grow edible mushrooms. The company claims the material also absorbs moisture, insulates heat, and is antimicrobial. The material is in the research and development phase and was first used in a prototype product for indoor and outdoor slippers in 2017. Amadou’s material has various applications across industries, including fashion, furniture, automotive, and transportation.
In 2020, Eden Power Corp., a sustainability-focused fashion brand, started including hats made from Amadou Leather in its “Mycelium” collection.
