Based in Poland, Bio2Materials develops a leather alternative using apple pomace, the dry pulp from the milling and pressing of the fruit. Located in Poland, the company is able to access the country’s output of up to 500 tons of apple pomace a day during peak season. The apple pomace is considered the largest contributor to organic waste produced from fruit and vegetable processing in the country.
As of July 2020, the product was at the prototyping stage. The company has plans to commercialize the product in the near future, targeting the B2B markets in the apparel, furniture, and automobile industries.
