Merlyn Mind, a technology company, was founded in 2018 by IBM alumni Satya Nitta, Ravi Kokku, and Sharad Sundararajan. In June 2021, the company launched out of stealth to introduce the first digital assistant specially designed for education. The artificial intelligence-based (AI-based) assistant, Merlyn, responds to both voice and remote control and allows teachers to use the educational technologies in their classrooms more easily and simply. Teachers are thus able to focus more on their students and teaching instead of managing devices and technology.
Merlyn was developed in consultation with educators over three and a half years. In 2021, the company piloted Merlyn in more than 50 classrooms across more than 20 different schools. Merlyn Mind describes its solution as an “AI hub,” which includes Merlyn, the digital assistant; Symphony Classroom, a voice interface; a smart speaker; and a remote that can be used for navigation and commands. Merlyn integrates with commonly-used apps and devices such as Google apps, Classcraft, Nearpod, and Newsela, among others.
The company also revealed that it had closed USD 29 million in funding led by Learn Capital as of June 2021.
