London-based Boxx offers boxing workouts via its fitness app and local studio. The startup ventured into connected fitness equipment with its punching bag for at-home and studio workouts. The unit comes with gloves, wraps, and Bluetooth trackers to measure count, speed, power, and direction of punches. Boxx units for home users will retail at USD 799–899. Depending on added features such as color customization, the price can vary up to USD 7,999. Products such as trackers, wraps, and trial/lifetime membership access are offered separately, without the main unit, for USD 169, targeting gym users.
At-home users can access on-demand workout classes including cooldown and warmup periods, high-intensity interval training (HIIT), and yoga via its app available on mobile phones or compatible home TVs for a subscription fee of GBP 9.99 (USD 13) per month (or GBP 19.99 (USD 27) per quarter or GBP 49.99 (USD 67) per annum). The app also features leaderboards to promote competitions within the community. The company is working on introducing live classes on its platform in November 2021.
Boxx launched a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter in November 2021 raising GBP 201,131 (USD 267,000) from more than 500 investors to bring its connected punching bag to the market. As of November 2021, Boxx had a working prototype, and it opened the system for pre-orders at introductory prices for its backers, with plans to start shipping by August 2022. Earlier, in June 2021, the company raised an undisclosed amount in a seed funding round led by Cornerstone Partners to further develop its workout content, expand its team, and launch its connected fitness product.
