Pryme is a Netherlands-based Cleantech company listed on Euronext Growth Oslo that converts plastic waste into usable feedstock for petrochemical companies to create new plastic. Its pyrolysis recycling process can help avoid ~92,000 tons of CO2 emissions per year for each Pryme reactor line, compared to incineration. The company aims to utilize over ten million tons of European plastic waste annually. Pryme claims to achieve highly efficient recycling of 100% of the processed plastics, meeting ISCC+ (an international certification system for bio-based feedstocks and renewables) requirements.
In January 2024, Pryme commenced production at its first facility in Rotterdam, Pryme One, which processes 40,000 metric tons of waste plastic annually and yields 30,000 metric tons of liquefied plastic waste (pyrolysis oil). The company also plans to construct a larger-scale plant in 2025.
Key customers and partnerships
Towards the end of 2021, the company entered into an offtake agreement with Shell Chemicals Europe BV for the supply of pyrolysis oil derived from recycled plastic waste. Following the start of production at Pryme's first plant, Pryme One, Pryme amended the supply agreement with Shell in February 2024, to provide Pryme with a direct outlet for the pyrolysis oil volumes that will be used as feedstock for Shell's Moerdijk upgrader.
Funding and financials
Pryme received nearly EUR 13 million (~USD 14 million) in May 2023 from Infinity Recycling, Invest-NL, and LyondellBasell to support the commercialization of its pyrolysis process to convert used plastic into valuable products on an industrial scale.
