APK offers a solvent-based Newcycling process that separates different polymers of multi-layer packaging materials and produces recycled materials suitable for new packaging materials. The company produces granules using both traditional recycling process (Recycling granules) and its proprietary Newcycling process (Newcycling granules).As of March 2024, APK operates from a 57,000 sq m (~600,000 sq ft) plant in Merseburg, with the capacity of 12 tons per annum using the conventional recycling process, and eight tons per annum using the Newcycling process.Funding and financialsIn<a href="https://sp-edge.com/updates/16234"> February 2023</a>, APK formed an agreement with LyondellBasell and KIRKBI, which agreed to invest approximately EUR 130 million in the company, and are set to become minority shareholders in APK, along with other co-investors. Its pyrolysis recycling process can help avoid ~92,000 tons of CO2 emissions per year for each Pryme reactor line, compared to incineration.  Global chemical industry company, LyondellBasell (LYB), has decided to fully acquire APK AG, a German firm specialized in solvent-based recycling technology. The terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. With this move, LYB hopes to grow their Circular and Low Carbon Solutions business and offer a wider range of innovative recycling technologies.
 The technology at APK AG is centered around solvent-based low-density polyethylene (LDPE) recycling. It has the capability to segregate different polymers from complex waste, resulting in high-purity recycled materials which are ideal for new flexible packaging needs such as personal care products.
 By acquiring APK, LYB intends to fuse APK's technology with its own advanced and mechanical recycling operations. The aim is to enhance the recycling of flexible plastic waste materials that are tough to recycle and strive towards generating and marketing at least 2 million metric tons of recycled and renewable-based polymers annually by 2030.
