Savvas Learning Company’s roots date back to 1896 with the establishment of Scott, Foresman and Company, an educational publishing company acquired by the education-sector giant Pearson in 1996. In 2019, Pearson’s US K-12 courseware business, Pearson K12 Learning—as it was then known—was spun out and rebranded as Savvas Learning Company. Savvas provides education resources across grades K-12 such as core curriculum, supplemental content, intervention programs, and professional development. The company also offers the Savvas Realize learning management system, allowing educators to access Savvas content, customize instructions, upload content, and monitor student progress. As of March 2021, the company served more than 40 million students across more than 10,000 districts.
In March 2021, Savvas introduced two summer solutions to help educators close learning gaps caused by the pandemic: Savvas Summer Impact is a ready-to-teach product for improving literacy and math skills through curated content, assessments, and planning guides; Savvas One Summer is a flexible solution allowing teachers to customize lessons and include targeted assessments. Teachers can mix math and reading content in Savvas Summer Impact with curriculum from the company’s other K-12 math, literacy, science, and social studies programs. The company also launched a Savvas Insights speaker series with authors and experts sharing best practices with educators on tackling unfinished learning, engaging students, and building reading habits. In March 2022, the company unveiled screener and adaptive diagnostic assessment tools for its Savvas Summer Impact, to provide educators with insights and analytics to deliver instructional content to personalize learning for students. Additionally, Savvas offers supplementary literacy programs in digital and blended learning formats: 1) Reading Spot, a digital library of books for K-5 students; 2) Savvas Essentials Foundational Reading, a program built on the science of reading in a blended format for K-2 students; and 3) Savvas Now Literacy, a digital library containing instructional materials for a range of ELA focus areas for K-5 students.
In March 2022, the company acquired Rubicon Learning, a Canada-based online learning solution provider for math, allowing Savvas Learning to strengthen its suite of products and services.
In February 2024 , Savvas Learning Company acquired Outlier.org, an EdTech startup offering college-level courses, to provide high-school students with access to online dual-credit courses.
