WasteFuel uses anaerobic digestion and methanol production technologies to convert municipal and agricultural waste into sustainable fuels. The company is primarily focused on producing bio-methanol for the shipping industry.
WasteFuel expects to develop multiple bio-methanol plants in Asia and the Americas, including a biorefinery in Manila, Philippines, to produce low-carbon fuels, which is slated to be operational in 2025. The company intended to set up its first project in Dubai, with the first batch of fuel expected in 2024.
Key customers and partnerships
In February 2021, WasteFuel partnered with NetJets Inc. to deliver 100 million gallons of WasteFuel’s sustainable fuels over the next 10 years.
In September 2021, WasteFuel received an undisclosed investment and a supply agreement from Danish shipping line A.P. Moller-Maersk to provide green energy to fuel Maersk’s container ships.

The company’s latest funding round was in July 2023, when it raised USD 10 million in a Series B funding round led by bp ventures, a London-based VC firm. The funding was utilized for developing a global network of low-carbon, bio-methanol facilities.
