Point Robotics MedTech is a pioneering company in the field of minimally invasive surgical technologies, specializing in orthopedic and spinal surgeries. Founded in Taiwan in 2016, the company has developed two major product lines: the "Kinguide Robotic-Assisted Surgical System" and the "Kinguide Agile Hybrid Navigation System." The "Kinguide Robotic-Assisted Surgical System" is a groundbreaking surgical robot that received 510(k) clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in August 2022, marking Taiwan's first FDA-cleared surgical robot. It is also the world's first hand-held robot framework equipped with a parallel manipulator for orthopedic application.
The "Kinguide Robotic-Assisted Surgical System" is an integrated surgical system that combines image-guided navigation and hand-held drilling features. It streamlines procedural tasks and significantly reduces surgeons' burdens during spinal fusion surgeries. The system's precision, stability, and reproducibility of robot motion improve surgical outcomes, which traditionally relied heavily on the surgeon's experience. The unique parallel manipulator mechanism enables the system to expand its capabilities to herniated disc decompression surgeries, addressing a significant unmet clinical need.
In May 2020, Point Robotics MedTech completed a USD 18 million Series A funding round from government funds, Taiwania Capital, and Translink Capital. The company is focused on developing and obtaining regulatory approvals for next-generation products to maintain its leading position in the high-end surgical robotics market. As of 2023, Point Robotics MedTech's navigation system has been used in 150 surgeries.
