Suniva is a leading American manufacturer of high-efficiency monocrystalline silicon solar cells. The company's solar cells are suitable for ground-mounted and rooftop applications, converting sunlight into electricity with an impressive 23% efficiency rate. In October 2023, Suniva announced the upgrade, expansion, and restart of its solar cell manufacturing facility in Norcross, Georgia. The first phase, expected to commence production by Spring 2024, will create up to 240 full-time jobs and increase Suniva's manufacturing capacity to one gigawatt (GW). A second phase aims to further expand annual production capacity up to 2.5 GW.
Suniva secured a USD 110 million financing commitment from Orion Infrastructure Capital (OIC) in 2023 to fund the expansion and purchase new, state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment. The company also signed a multi-year supply agreement for UFLPA-compliant wafers. Suniva's restart is made possible by the Inflation Reduction Act's Domestic Content provisions, which provide tax credits for US-produced solar panels and cells, strengthening the foundation for domestic solar cell manufacturing.
In March 2024, Suniva announced a USD 400 million, three-year contract with Heliene, a solar panel manufacturer based in Minnesota, marking a historic partnership to onshore the solar supply chain. Under this agreement, Heliene will use Suniva's US-made cells in its manufacturing process, enabling its customers to qualify for lucrative tax credits and incentives.
