Mimic Seafood is a plant-based seafood alternatives company that uses only five vegan ingredients to produce gluten-free, non-GMO, and anisakis- and listeria-free seafood products. The startup’s first and flagship product, Tunato, is made from tomatoes, olive oil, soy sauce, and algae extract. It is designed to replicate raw cuts of sushi-grade tuna and can be used for sushi, poke bowls, and tartare. It has also developed Aubergeel, a plant-based eel alternative made from Japanese egg plants, and Roemato, a salmon roe alternative made from Tunato.
The company, established in two Spanish cities, planned to enter Denmark via food service and expand distribution, as well as launch its products in other countries and retail channels once scaled. Furthermore, Mimic Seafood also aims to add more types of fish alternatives to its clean label portfolio.
