PediaMetrix is a Rockville, Maryland-based software company that develops mobile applications for pediatric healthcare. Its flagship product, SoftSpot, is an FDA-cleared smartphone app that aids in the early detection and management of common infant cranial conditions like plagiocephaly, brachycephaly, and craniosynostosis.

The app utilizes image processing and AI algorithms to scan an infant's head and provide accurate measurements of various cranial indices in just 10 seconds. It allows parents or physicians to easily monitor head shape abnormalities from the point of care, enabling timely interventions like positional therapy or helmet treatment for deformational plagiocephaly and brachycephaly (DPB). This can prevent the need for more intensive treatments later on.

For craniosynostosis, where skull bones fuse prematurely restricting brain growth, SoftSpot's early detection facilitates minimally invasive surgery. The technology makes 3D reconstructions of the head from 2D smartphone videos and classifies deformities, bringing specialist-level analysis to pediatric offices at low cost.

PediaMetrix secured a USD 1.93 million award from the National Institutes of Health in August 2022 to develop SoftSpot 3D, enabling comprehensive 3D head scanning and evaluation for virtually all cranial conditions using AI-powered decision support.
