Hopp

Hopp is a micromobility company founded in Reykjavik, Iceland in 2019 by a team of software developers. Its primary offering is an electric scooter sharing service, operated through a mobile app. The scooters can be unlocked by scanning a QR code or entering the number displayed, with pricing based on a starting fee to unlock and per-minute usage charges. In March 2022, Hopp expanded its services to include short-term electric car rentals in Reykjavik, allowing users to book and pay for cars through the app.

The company's scooter fleet has grown rapidly, reaching around 7,000 scooters worldwide as of March 2023, facilitating approximately 6,000 trips per day. Hopp operates on a franchise model, enabling local entrepreneurs to launch fleets in their areas. As of March 2023, there were 36 Hopp franchises globally, with locations in Iceland, Norway, Greece, Poland, Sweden, the Faroe Islands, and Spain.

Hopp emphasizes sustainability, aiming to reduce carbon emissions through efficient operations and responsible offsetting. It partners with manufacturers to build more durable scooters, reducing waste and extending their lifespan. In December 2022, Nefco (Nordic Green Bank) provided financing to support Hopp's European expansion via franchising.

In July 2022, Hopp introduced a new generation of larger, better-balanced scooters with improved braking and lower maintenance needs. The company also collaborated with Strætó, Reykjavik's public bus service, to integrate their offerings, allowing seamless multi-modal trips.

Hopp has also collaborated with Icelandic car rental company Höldur – Bílaleiga Akureyrar, a franchisee for Europcar, to provide its electric car rental service in Reykjavik.

Additionally, Hopp has signed an agreement with the Icelandic Carbon Fund (ICF) to offset emissions from the manufacturing, shipping, and production processes of its scooter fleet, aiming for end-to-end carbon neutrality.
