Pastoral

Pastoral is a British AgriTech startup that has developed a precision regenerative livestock farming platform in collaboration with the UN. Pastoral was incubated by Karakoram Innovation, and, in 2021, it completed the Karakoram Innovation incubator to become an independent company. The company claims to offer the world's first low-cost precision regenerative livestock farming platform. Pastoral operates in Uzbekistan and the UK, with plans to expand its coverage to several countries in Europe, Central Asia, and the African Sahel.

This platform provides lower-income farmers with access to digital regenerative and data-driven farming tools such as chat-based virtual fencing, animal location and health, vegetal satellite data, and micro weather forecasts. The company delivers precision live feeding, management, grazing, and intelligence information directly to the phone through the Telegram chat service using satellite data and animal sensors. Pastoral also offers livestock tracking with its advanced animal location and locomotion sensors powered by solar energy that recharge automatically when exposed to sunlight. They have a battery life of up to 15 days, even in indoor or cloudy environments. Additionally, the sensors are designed to work seamlessly in over 160 countries without any extra setup. The company claims to decrease the environmental impact of livestock farming by 15%–30% while increasing farmer profitability by 10%. 

As of May 2023, Pastoral provided transparent pricing plans for all types of farmers, with a free plan for small farmers that includes daily farm data, weather-based precision feeding and management practices, and connectivity with other farmers. The Smallholder Farmer plan costs GBP 75 per tracker upfront and GBP 10 per month per tracker, offering real-time livestock tracking, virtual fencing, herd management, and fine-scale animal management strategies. The Farm Manager plan costs GBP 80 per tracker upfront and GBP 16 per month per tracker, providing ground sensor precision feeding, custom-formulated rations, and animal weight and growth metrics.

In April 2023, Pastoral raised EUR 205,000 (~USD 224,000) in a pre-seed funding round led by SFC Capital to expand its team and develop its technology platform.
