Based in California, Martie is a women-founded online grocery platform that redistributes excess but perfectly good, branded pantry staples to consumers at a 40%–70% discount. Its web-based platform was launched in November 2021, consisting of more than 800 stock-keeping units. As of 2024, Martie has worked with and sold over 1,500 brands including Kind, Kellogg’s, Quaker, and Annie’s Homegrown, covering a range of pantry staples, including cookies, coffee, nut butter, and condiments.
The consumers can sign up for free and use the Martie platform to purchase excess food that would otherwise go to waste. The company also has a hotline for customers who are uncomfortable placing online orders. In 2021, Martie planned to operate only in California with expectations to gradually expand nationwide with a larger portfolio of brands and suppliers. By October 2023, Martie operated in all 48 contiguous states (excludes Alaska and Hawaii) across the US. Martie announced its plans to open two more warehouses on the West and East Coast by 2024.
As of 2024, Martie claimed that it had saved over 5 million lbs of food from going to waste, saved 614 million gallons of water, and prevented over 15,010 tons of CO2 equivalent emissions.
