Founded in 2021, Luya Foods is a plant-based meat startup that produces meat alternatives using chickpeas and soybean okara. Okara consists of the insoluble parts of the soybean remains that are left after pureed soybeans are filtered in the production of soy milk and tofu. The company leverages its proprietary process which includes a traditional fermentation process integrated with modern technology that eliminates additives and highly processed protein. Luya products are available at Swiss retailers and on the company website and feature Luya Okara Chunks in Simply Natural, Exotic Curry, and Savory Teriyaki flavors.
Funding and financials
In November 2021 , the company raised an undisclosed amount in seed funding, led by Redalpine Venture Partners. The funds were planned to be used for accelerating R&D to develop new products, strengthen its fermentation platform, and expand production.
