Vivo is an online fitness startup that focuses on at-home strength training programs scientifically designed for older adults (55+). The programs are live-streamed, personalized, and conducted in small groups by certified fitness professionals (on a contractual basis). Studies done by the company in partnership with Duke and Emory universities reported that after 2 months, Vivo members had an average increase of lower body strength by 27%; an increase in upper body strength by 22%; and an increase in endurance by 25%. As of November 2021, the platform is reported to have served ~125 customers with a monthly customer retention rate of 98% and is priced at USD 159 per month (per user).
In November 2021, the company raised USD 1.1 million in a seed funding round co-led by angel investors Mike Becker, Jim Denny, and Ken Manning. The company plans to direct the funds to increase its headcount to 20 (from 16) across key functions in operations and customer acquisition. It also plans to divert a part of the new funds to expand the scientific research on preventive care for certain age-related diseases, such as osteoporosis and Type 2 Diabetes.
