Gulf Coast Sequestration (GCS) was developing a regional sequestration “hub” in Southwest Louisiana to capture carbon dioxide (CO2) and permanently store it underground.
In October 2020, it announced the initial filing to obtain a Class VI Underground Injection Control permit from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The GCS hub was expected to be the largest geologic carbon sequestration project in the US, which is designed to permanently store more than 80 million tons of CO2 underground. The company plans to sequester 2.7 million tons of CO2 annually.
