WattCarbon is a carbon marketplace powered by open-source 24/7 carbon data focused on decarbonizing buildings. Its marketplace includes carbon reductions through electrification, demand response, and renewable energy production. The company gathers carbon intelligence through meter data, weather data, and US energy grid data, building energy models for its measurement and verification platform.
In August 2023, WattCarbon launched the Energy Transition Marketplace to offer decarbonization portfolios to customers. It consists of a “DER Registry” to report on energy consumption and a “Transaction Registry” to showcase project yield or savings. Additionally, WattCarbon's Virtual Power Plants (VPPs) enable consumers to offset their energy use on a time and locational basis from carbon reduction projects. In May 2024, the company launched the WEATS marketplace, to track clean energy purchases.
Key customers and partnerships
WattCarbon has partnered with suppliers such as ATMOS, Pivot Energy, Quit Carbon, and Solar Holler to decarbonize buildings. In June 2022, the company partnered with Cloverly to integrate automated tracking of CO2 emissions of buildings and automated purchase of carbon offsets for those emissions as an end-to-end solution.
Funding and financials
The company’s latest funding round was in January 2023, when it raised USD 4.5 million in a seed round led by True Ventures to launch the world's first net zero 24/7 carbon-free energy market.
