Treeswift is a Philadelphia-based developer of SwiftCruise, an integrated hardware and software solution designed for navigating beneath the forest canopy. By integrating Treeswift's sensors with drones and backpacks, forests can be surveyed to assess carbon and timber levels. This solution collects terabytes of data, measuring detailed metrics for individual trees, including size, species, quality, marketable products, and geospatial information, even in challenging forest environments.
The gathered information is processed by onboard machine-learning algorithms and stored in a cloud-based data dashboard. The data obtained from onboard cameras and sensors is utilized for estimating carbon sequestration, assessing timber value, mitigating fires, understanding biomass understory, monitoring deforestation, forecasting advanced growth, and managing forests. The company claims that by using SwiftCruise, an operator can gather the necessary data 10x faster compared to existing methods.
As of August 2023, Treeswift had been deploying/piloting its technology with commercial forestry companies to estimate timber volume and carbon, including Molpus Woodlands Group, Superior Pine Products Company, and Weyerhaeuser Company.
