Based in Germany, Revoltech is developing a bio-based alternative to leather called “LOVR” (leather-like-without-plastic-vegan-residue-based). The company uses hemp waste as a base and adds other agricultural waste products to convert it into the final product. Revoltech claims that LOVR is a 100% biodegradable, climate-neutral, and plastic-free leather alternative that is also durable and long-lasting. Revoltech aimed to target the fashion, automotive, and furniture industries.
Revoltech has partnered with the Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany to develop its technology that can make use of byproducts from the agricultural industry to produce its bio-based leather product. As of June 2022, the company had not yet commercialized its product.
In May 2022 , the company raised an undisclosed amount in seed funding in a joint investment agreement between B.Value AG, BMH Beteiligungs-Managementgesellschaft Hessen mbH and HEAG. The funds were expected to be used to expand production and operations and commercialize its product with support from the BMH and HEAG.
