Clearway Energy Group is a leading renewable energy company in the US, focused on accelerating the world's transition to a clean energy future. The company operates a diverse portfolio of renewable energy assets, including wind, utility-scale solar, distributed solar, and energy storage systems.
In August 2022, Clearway Energy Group commissioned Wärtsilä to provide a 497-megawatt (MW) / 1.9-gigawatt hour (GWhac) portfolio of five energy storage systems coupled with solar photovoltaic (PV) resources across sites in California and Hawaii. These projects, which include hardware, software, and long-term maintenance agreements, are among the largest co-located energy storage projects in the US.
The energy storage projects in California aim to ensure favorable outcomes for Clearway's solar PV facilities and provide grid flexibility by enabling renewable energy distribution during peak periods. In Hawaii, the storage projects contribute to the state's carbon reduction targets by ensuring reliable delivery of sustainable energy.
Clearway Energy Group's operating footprint includes 2.8 GW of wind, 1.1 GW of utility solar, and over 300 MW of distributed and community solar. As of August 2023, the company owns an 8.9 GW pipeline of renewable energy projects under development.
In September 2018, Clearway Energy Group acquired an approximately 4.7 GW development pipeline of utility-scale solar projects from SunPower, spanning 16 states, strengthening its robust pipeline of utility-scale solar development projects.
