Pianity is a French marketplace that enables musicians and their audiences to create, share, trade, and collect limited-edition tracks as NFTs. The platform is built on Arweave, using the Proof of Access method to authenticate transactions, which claims to consume 100 times less energy than Proof of Work systems such as Ethereum. Pianity differentiates itself from its peers through its community profit-sharing feature that redistributes 50% of its earnings in tokens to all active users based on the sizes of the users’ NFT collections and volume of transactions, to incentivize users to support artists. As of March 2022, the company has sold ~11,000 NFTs and has 20,000+ users on its platform, with artists having earned over USD 1.9 million through NFT sales.
In March 2022 , Pianity raised USD 6.5 million in a seed funding round led by Digital Renaissance Foundation, Big Brain Holdings, and Longhash Ventures. The fresh funds will be used to partner with major music companies and festivals, onboard more artists, expand employee headcount, open new offices in the US and Latin America, and create a mobile app and new features for Pianity’s streaming services, including an NFT playlist and a library.
