Flylogix is a pioneering company that specializes in developing and deploying long-range unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for commercial applications. Their primary focus lies in the energy sector, particularly in detecting and measuring methane emissions from offshore oil and gas platforms. Flylogix combines its advanced UAV technology with satellite communications and cutting-edge methane sensor technology from its partner, SeekOps.
The company's UAVs are designed for beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) operations, enabling them to conduct inspections, gather data, and perform various tasks in remote and challenging environments. In November 2019, Flylogix set a record for the longest commercial drone flight in the UK, flying a round trip of 88 kilometers to gather detailed infrared imagery from BP's Clair platform in the North Sea.
Flylogix's UAVs are equipped with SeekOps' sensors, originally designed for NASA's Mars Curiosity Rover, mounted on their wingtips. These sensors allow the drones to detect, localize, and quantify methane emissions with high precision, providing valuable data to energy companies for mitigating their environmental impact. By employing unmanned systems, Flylogix offers a safer and more cost-effective solution compared to traditional methods, reducing the need for personnel offshore and the associated carbon emissions.
In March 2022, Flylogix secured a GBP 6 million equity investment round led by Amati Global Investors, with BP investing GBP 3 million. This investment enabled Flylogix to expand its operations into new regions, including the US, Norway, and Trinidad and Tobago, and explore opportunities in other industries such as biodiversity and renewable energy.
Key customers and partnerships
Flylogix has established partnerships with several major energy companies, including BP, Shell, Total Energies, Equinor, TAQA, and Harbour Energy. These partnerships have been instrumental in conducting successful methane emissions surveys on the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS) and demonstrating the effectiveness of their UAV technology in remote offshore operations.
In February 2022, Flylogix expanded its strategic partnership with SeekOps, the provider of its methane sensor technology. This collaboration enabled the deployment of UAV missions to the Norwegian Continental Shelf and the Dutch and Danish sectors of the North Sea, in addition to the UKCS.
Flylogix has also collaborated with NATS, the UK's leading air traffic navigation services provider, and the Oil & Gas Technology Centre (OGTC) to overcome challenges associated with unmanned aviation activities in the North Sea. This project aimed to establish a leading example of safe and reliable drone operations alongside existing users in controlled airspace.
