INRIX, a spinoff of Microsoft Research based in Washington, provides a suite of transport analytics solutions for cities and transport agencies for traffic management as well as for private firms, such as automobile manufacturers, insurance, and retailers, to leverage on its data for varied business applications. INRIX’s products include 1) INRIX IQ, which provides data and insights on traffic signals, along with real-time traffic and commuter trips; 2) INRIX AI traffic, an information platform that provides instantaneous updates on road conditions and safety alerts that cover all roads; and 3) INRIX parking, which gives on-street and off-street parking data.

INRIX’s platform taps into both the existing traffic infrastructure, such as the Regional Integrated Transportation Information System (RITIS) platform by the Center for Advanced Transportation Technology (CATT) Laboratory at the University of Maryland, as well as data gathered from connected vehicles, which enables its solutions to be implemented without the need for significant hardware investments. A case in point is INRIX’s signal analytics solution (introduced in January 2021), which the firm claimed to be the first to utilize big data from connected vehicles.

In November 2023 , INRIX signed a letter of intent to acquire Ride Report , a Portland-based mobility management platform that provides shared mobility data.

Key customers and partnerships

Through partnerships and its acquisition of Parkme, a park and go app (acquired in 2015), INRIX has extended its capabilities to include parking reservations and payment options for drivers. In 2020, INRIX had approx. 600 customers across 1,000+ cities in more than 50 countries.

In May 2022, the firm partnered with General Motors to launch ‘Safety View’ a cloud-based road safety platform that provides government agencies and transport operators with actionable insights for improving road safety.

Funding and financials

In January 2020, the firm stated that its focus was on driving its international expansion in preparation for a planned exit either through a public listing or sale within the next five years.

In line with this, in August 2023, INRIX raised USD 70 million in debt financing from Morgan Stanley Investment Management to support its strategic growth initiatives and debt refinancing. It also raised USD 10 million Series F funding in August 2022.
