Seattle-based Zocalo was co-founded in 2021 by CEO Erik Cardenas and Mariza Hardin, Head of Strategy and Operations, who were early hires at Amazon Care, Amazon’s hybrid of virtual and in-home services that was to shut down by the end of 2022.
Members are provided with 12 consultation visits per year, including virtual appointments and access to a care team consisting of physicians, nurses, mental health clinicians, and a community health worker. In addition to providing primary care for common medical issues, the company offers wellness programs on mental health, sleep, nutrition and exercise, stress management, and chronic disease management.
The company operates a B2C business model by providing annual memberships for individuals priced at USD 40 per month. As of October 2022, the company was offering its virtual service in California and Texas and had plans to expand to other states and set up physical clinics.
