Based in Costa Rica, LightningWorks is a developer of play-to-earn (P2E) Web3 games, which combines comic books with interactive NFTs. In addition, its platform empowers other artists, writers, and creators to bring their stories and comic books to life and monetize their creations by leveraging AI technology embedded in its platform.

In January 2023, the company launched its inaugural game, Siege Worlds Zero, on Ethereum. The game is a first-person shooter (FPS) that unfolds on a mysterious island, where historical heroes such as Miyamoto Musashi and Joan of Arc are reborn to combat sea-emerging monsters. Players explore NFT-based “Easter eggs” concealed within a comic book, unlocking unique in-game assets like rifles, pistols, and crossbows that directly correspond to story characters. These exclusive items can be obtained by minting the comic or purchasing from other players on platforms like OpenSea .

Funding and financials

The company raised USD 2.5 million in seed funding in June 2023. The funding was provided by its founder–Geoff McCabe, and the company was to use it toward its go-to-market initiatives for NFT comics.
