Mooji Meats

Founded in 2022, Mooji Meats is a Baltimore-based FoodTech startup that is also a part of Y-Combinator. Focused on developing 3D-printed plant-based meat, Mooji Meats aims to produce alternative meats that mimic whole cuts of meat like chicken breast, tuna steaks, and wagyu beef. The company leverages 3D printing tech developed by Harvard SEAS to create a system that can complete this process quickly, at scale, and at lower costs. Its technology is capable of printing with multiple nozzles at a time, compared to single-nozzle operations used in most existing technologies. According to the company, its tech can move up to 250x faster than existing printers. The company intended to unveil its first prototype in 2H 2022.

Funding and financials

In May 2022 , the company raised USD 3 million (initial goal of USD 2.5 million) in a seed funding round, which featured The Good Startup, Collaborative Fund, Lever VC, and AgFunder. The funds raised were to be split between increasing lab equipment, hiring food scientists and engineers, and traditional overheads.
