EVA.gg, initially founded as a game development company in 2019, has since pivoted into developing its own esports VR arenas to address the limitations of the VR systems used in homes.
The company states that players get unlimited mobility in the arenas, which can be scaled up to 500 square meters, which it claims makes it the first company to offer free roam VR in a large space. The players are also provided with VR headsets, backpack computers, and 3D-printed weapons. The stadiums can also house up to 500 spectators and are equipped with devices to live stream to an online audience.
The company charges ~USD 39 per session and also has a subscription-based model of USD 89 per month.
As of January 2024, the company operated 24 stadiums in Europe (primarily in France and Belgium), and one stadium in the US. The company planned to install 100 arenas in France by 2025, and signed a franchise agreement to open 30 arenas in Texas from 2022 onwards.
Funding and financials
The company’s most recent funding was in July 2022 when it raised EUR 5 million (approx USD 4.3 million) in a seed funding round co-led by Trust Esport Ventures and BPI. The funds were allocated to enter the US market and further scale operations in Europe.
