Tipa is an Israeli compostable packaging company that offers biodegradable packaging solutions to replace conventional flexible plastic packaging, such as Polyethylene and Polypropylene. Tipa’s patented technology produces compostable packaging out of fully compostable polymers and can fully biodegrade into industrial-grade compost within 180 days, unlike fossil fuel-based plastic, which takes years. The compostable packaging contains around 66% renewable bio-based materials. Tipa claims that R&D is underway to increase the bio-based percentage of the packaging solutions in the long term. As of December 2021, the company serves fashion and food industries across North America and Europe.
Key customers and partnerships
Tipa has entered into a product development partnership with ULMA Packaging (a UK-based leading packaging company— December 2020) to improve efficiency on running compostable films on advanced packaging machinery. In addition, the company has customer partnerships with packaging companies such as PerfoTec (a Dutch high precision laser system provider to extend the freshness of the fruits and vegetables—February 2021), and Amcor, a Swiss packaging company (April 2021) to deploy its compostable packaging solutions.
Funding and financials
In December 2021, Tipa raised USD 70 million in a Series C funding round co-led by Meitav Investment House and Millennium Food-Tech. The fresh funds were to be allocated toward Tipa’s product development and global expansion plans.
