Yara Marine Technologies (YMT) was a leading provider of green technologies for the maritime industry. The company offered a wide portfolio of innovative solutions to address emissions challenges, including exhaust gas cleaning systems (scrubbers), vessel optimization, wind-assisted propulsion, and shore power systems. YMT's scrubbers allowed ship owners to continue using high-sulfur fuel while complying with emissions regulations, providing a cost-effective alternative to low-sulfur marine gas oil.
In February 2024, Yara Marine Technologies was acquired by Okapi Supply Trading Advisory, a part of the Swiss-African Okapi Energy Group, as Yara refocused its business strategy on sustainable food solutions and clean ammonia. YMT's scrubber systems had seen a significant increase in demand, with the company approaching 100 orders by 2015 and capturing a majority share in the cruise ship market, including the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet. The company also had a strong foothold in the cargo market.
