Unyoked is an Australia-based startup that offers a website for vacation rentals of off-grid cabins, with each location being chosen in a remote location within two hours from a major city. The cabin-stays are targeted at millennials, offering bookings which range from four nights to more than eight weeks. The platform’s booking system provides users with the option to filter locations based on three categories: calm, clarity, and creativity, and allows users to become hosts by providing unutilized areas of land to Unyoked for its cabins. The small homes feature kitchens, full bathrooms, a bed, and are equipped with solar power, rainwater tanks, wooden fireplaces, composting toilets, and entertainment activities. Unyoked partners with builders to create the units, which can be towed to remote destinations with a four-wheel-drive vehicle. As of March 2023, the company operated ~100 cabins in Australia, New Zealand, and the UK, and prioritized expansion in the UK, Scandinavia, Germany, Benelux, Austria, and Switzerland; it had planned to grow its footprint to 400 units by September 2024. Further, the company was working on incorporating booking options for camping groups and reported that its cabins have seen a ~73% occupancy rate from 2016 to 2022. Cabins are priced at AUD 273 (~USD 185) for weeknights, AUD 333 (~USD 225) for weekends, and offers “Think Weeks” for productivity-focused stays priced between AUD 899 and AUD 999 (~USD 610–680), ranging between four to five nights. The company also sells apparel, bags, books, and vinyls.
