EvodiaBio is a Danish biotech company that has pioneered a groundbreaking and sustainable method to produce natural aromas using precision fermentation technology. The company's innovative approach significantly enhances the taste of non-alcoholic beer while reducing the use of natural resources and CO2 emissions, aligning with global sustainability goals.
EvodiaBio's technology relies on yeast cells that secrete individual aroma components, which are then combined to mimic the aroma profiles of different hops varieties. This biotechnological production method enables a cost-effective and sustainable way to create volatile aroma molecules, surpassing all other methods currently available. By utilizing EvodiaBio's solution, brewers can avoid depleting limited plant resources, with water and CO2 emissions reduced by more than 90%.
The company's initial focus is on the beer industry, where its aromas can improve the taste of non-alcoholic beer and partially replace aromatic hops, which are currently threatened by climate change. EvodiaBio's aroma blend, called Yops, serves as a sustainable alternative to cultivated aroma hops. In the long term, the company aims to expand its offerings to various types of beverages and other food products.
EvodiaBio was founded just three years ago and has received early-stage financial support of 2 million euros from the Danish BioInnovation Institute, founded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation. In June 2024, the company secured an additional EUR 7 million investment, led by both foreign and Danish investment funds, including EIFO and The March Group. This substantial capital infusion will drive commercialization and expansion efforts, cementing EvodiaBio's position as a leader in the sustainable aroma industry.
