SpaceGold is an off-world mining company based in Arizona that engineers high Technology Readiness Level (TRL) hardware solutions for commercial and autonomous space body mining. In collaboration with engineers from Boeing, Lockheed Martin, NASA, and Trivector Services, it aims to design, build, launch, and operate satellites that are capable of mining and refining gold from the moon and other near-earth asteroids (NEAs).
According to the company, SpaceGold is forecast to produce 960 tons of gold over the next 20 years and be valued at USD 44 billion by the end of its second year of production. In addition to gold mining, the company is also looking at the potential of mining iron, nickel, iridium, palladium, platinum, magnesium, and other precious metals such as osmium, ruthenium, and rhodium from asteroids. As of 2023, SpaceGold’s first lunar mining operation was scheduled for 2027.
