SpaceGold

SpaceGold is an off-world mining company based in Arizona that engineers high Technology Readiness Level (TRL) hardware solutions for commercial and autonomous space body mining. In collaboration with engineers from Boeing, Lockheed Martin, NASA, and Trivector Services, it aims to design, build, launch, and operate satellites that are capable of mining and refining gold from the moon and other near-earth asteroids (NEAs).

According to the company, SpaceGold is forecast to produce 960 tons of gold over the next 20 years and be valued at USD 44 billion by the end of its second year of production. In addition to gold mining, the company is also looking at the potential of mining iron, nickel, iridium, palladium, platinum, magnesium, and other precious metals such as osmium, ruthenium, and rhodium from asteroids.

Funding and financials

The project is set to be funded via traditional funding methods as well as emerging blockchain methods. Traditional financing will be via convertible promissory notes (discount 30%, IR 5%, and maturity date upto 24 months) and joint ventures. As for the blockchain method, a newly developed cryptocurrency, an ERC20 Ethereum based token named SpaceGold (SGOLD) will be used. The company plans on introducing a new series of SGOLD for each satellite they send to orbit and expects a valuation of 44 billion by the end of its second year of production.
