Halliday

Web3-based startup Halliday claims to be the world’s first BNPL platform for blockchain games and metaverse assets. The platform’s beta launch had been planned for August 2022 in partnership with the blockchain game “League of Kingdoms”, while the public launch was expected shortly after. Halliday integrates with games and marketplaces as an alternative checkout for NFT and in-game purchases. It is notable that the company uses a repo (repurchase agreement) structure, where players immediately access the assets although the ownership is retained by Halliday until the full payment is made. The player can use the asset in-game but loses access if they default on the payment. Payments are accepted in both crypto and traditional methods such as credit cards.

In August 2022 the company raised USD 6 million in a seed funding round led by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z). The fresh funds were to be used to prepare for the product’s beta launch.
