Bright.md is an AI-based physician assistant program and web-based telehealth provider. The company’s SmartExam AI-powered physician assistant acts as a virtual front door to triage and direct patients to in-person or video consultations. SmartExam also supports diagnosis by conducting online assessments that are integrated with the electronic health records before a video consultation.
In addition to SmartExam, Bright.md provides a Covid-19 evaluation and screening tool, Smart Exam URI, to rate patients with common upper respiratory infection symptoms. Bright.md’s client base consists of large North American hospitals including Mercy, SCL Health, and Prisma Health.
In October 2023, Bright.md was acquired by Evernorth's subsidiary, MDLive, for an undisclosed amount. Post-acquisition, MDLive will incorporate Bright.md’s offerings into its virtual care platform. Additionally, MDLive plans to launch an emergency asynchronous option for virtual urgent care beginning in 2024. After this service launches, the company will look to expand these care options to other chronic disease management services and wellness visits over time.
Funding and financials
In March 2020, Bright.md raised a Series C funding round that brought total funding up to USD 29 million.
