As of August 2022, Regression Games was developing a platform combining AI and competitive gaming, which allows players to use machine learning models and algorithms to compete with each other, unlike traditional esports platforms. Players can write code and collaborate with friends to create AIs to control their characters and compete in tournaments with others based on their skill level. The company planned to integrate the platform with both third-party and in-house developed games. Founder Aaron Vontell, a graduate of MIT with experience in low-code/no-code solutions, believed that the platform would also cater to developers who want to build AIs into their games. In August 2022, the company raised USD 4.2 million in a seed funding round led by New Enterprise Associates (NEA). The funds were to be used to expand their engineering team and for platform development.
