Contec S.A. is a Poland-based tire recycling company that is involved in the chemical recycling of end-of-life tires to produce circular rubber and plastic materials, including recycled carbon black (ConBlack®), tire pyrolysis oil (ConPyro®), and steel (ConWire®) which can be used to manufacture new tires.
The company uses tire pyrolysis technology and claims to be the only user of molten salt as a heating medium to decompose rubber granules into pyrolysis gas and solid char and ensure uniform heating of waste tire materials.
As of March 2024, the company operates a large-scale pilot plant in Szczecin, Poland, with two pyrolysis lines in full operation, and plans to triple the capacity of its facility by 1H 2024. After the expansion, the plant's capacity is expected to reach 33,000 tons of tires per year, allowing an increased production capacity for Contec's products, including recovered carbon black and tire pyrolysis oil. The Szczecin plant uses 100% renewable electricity, converting 85% of a scrap tire into products and 15% into energy to power the process.
