Koop is a web3-based company that allows creators, collectors, and communities to raise funds through NFT membership passes. The funds are used to back each community’s projects—the main use case being content creation and building an engaged fan base. The communities can also manage their treasury, leverage the unique skills of members, and govern the organization. Koop’s business model enables creators and their fans to become co-founders working together. It is considered a “socioeconomic network," which differs from DAOs. Koops are lighter weight and focus more on social experiences rather than decentralized decision-making. Creators using Koops can retain control over their group's wallet and decision-making, but may seek guidance from the Koop community.
The platform publicly launched in August 2022 after operating for two months in private beta. As of August 2022, Koop had 50 active communities, each with ~2,000–10,000 members alongside 8,500 communities on its waitlist.
Funding and financials
The company emerged from stealth in August 2022 with a funding of USD 5 million led by 1confirmation and Variant Fund (a web3/creator economy-focused investor).
