Ubiquitous Energy manufactures transparent solar panels. The company’s patented technology selectively captures ultraviolet and infrared light while allowing visible light to pass through, allowing Ubiquitous Energy to install solar windows for residential and commercial units. However, as these transparent solar panels can only produce up to about 50% of the electricity generated by a rooftop solar panel of a similar surface area, the company does not market its technology as a replacement for rooftop solar.
As of January 2024, Ubiquitous has completed several demonstration projects, including at Michigan State University, at the Boulder Commons apartment community in Colorado, and at the Takanawa Gateway Station in Tokyo, Japan. The company intended to open its first manufacturing facility to produce floor-to-ceiling solar windows in 2024.
Key customers and partnerships
In May 2022, Ubiquitous Energy partnered with Citrine Informatics, an AI-driven platform for material development, to discover new transparent solar materials. In August 2022, the company partnered with Andersen Corporation, a US window and door manufacturer and a leading investor in Ubiquitous Energy, to jointly develop first-of-its-kind energy-generating window and door products. The company has also partnered with several other window companies including Asahi, and Pilkington.
In May 2023, Ubiquitous partnered with ENEOS to set up a public demonstration of its UE Power energy-generating windows at the Takanawa Gateway Station in Tokyo, Japan.
Funding and financials
Ubiquitous Energy’s most recent funding event was in January 2022 when it raised USD 30 million in a Series B funding round led by Andersen Corporation. Ubiquitous Energy expects to utilize the funds to commercialize its UE Power technology.
