Founded in 2020, Agurotech is an Amsterdam-based high-tech company specializing in data-driven arable farming. The company focuses on providing data and insights to farmers to help them efficiently use resources such as water. Agurotech develops, produces, and delivers proprietary hardware and software solutions, such as sensor technology, weather stations, and applications.
The company's solutions include farm registry, profitability management, irrigation management, pesticide management, fertilizer management, and carbon farming, which earns credits based on the amount of carbon stored in soil. The company uses existing and new technologies, such as satellite imagery, drone imagery, sensor technology, weather stations, public databases, and crop and soil models, to generate valuable data and insights for farmers. The company claims that its Saturnia sensor is robust, easy to apply, lightweight, highly accurate, secured against theft, and has the most extended battery life.
Agurotech intends to scale up its production and would use its technology in the "LIFE - The Future of Farming" project, supported by the EU. The project involves 300 farmers, agricultural organizations, universities, scientists, and local governments in the six EU countries. The collaboration would install 450 Agurotech sensors in farming fields across the EU, continuously measuring volumetric water content (VWC), electrical conductivity (EC), and temperature.
In February 2023, Agurotech raised EUR 1.5 million (~USD 1.6 million) from Navus Ventures and ROM InWest to expand the company over the following five years and achieve international market leadership in key segments.
