Mythic specializes in developing innovative AI processors that leverage analog computing to enhance performance and efficiency.

Mythic offers a unified hardware and software processor chip which enables edge artificial intelligence (AI) inferencing, by allowing AI systems to sift through their memory faster. The company launched its “Mythic Analog Matrix Processor” (Mythic AMP) in November 2020. The AMP looks to reduce the cost and complexity of deploying AI solutions, by enabling devices to analyze data and make decisions in real time without using data centers or the cloud. Accordingly, the chips can be used in a range of applications, including smart homes, augmented reality/virtual reality (AR/VR), drones, video surveillance, smart city, and factory automation.

Mythic has developed the “M1076” AMP chip, which can deliver up to 25 TOPS of AI compute, and can also scale from the edge to server applications for multiple industries including smart cities, industrial applications, enterprise applications, and consumer devices.

Furthermore, as per the company, the chips can deliver the AI compute performance of a desktop graphics processing unit (GPU), by consuming only a tenth of the power. It attributes this efficiency to its chips relying on analog currents and flash memory to perform their inference calculations.

Its next product is the next-generation M2000 series product, which builds on the M1076 Analog Matrix Processor. The M2000 series is aimed at bringing even more efficiency and performance to edge AI applications in various fields such as defense, enterprises, industrial environments, smart cities, smart homes, and beyond.

As a processor which is built for AI inferencing, it faces competition from a range of technologies including, system on chips (SoCs), tensor processing units (TPUs), GPUs, and field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs).

Funding and financials

In February 2023, Mythic raised USD 13 million in new funding from Atreides Management, DCVC, Lux Capital, Catapult Ventures, and Hermann Hauser to bring its M2000 series chip to market. During the same period, Mythic also appointed its co-founder and previous CTO, Dave Fick, as the new CEO.
