 Ocean Oasis, a Norwegian company specializing in wave-powered desalination, has secured a grant of EUR 6 million (USD 6.6 million) from the European Executive Agency on Climate, Infrastructure and Environment (CINEA). The funds, provided under the Circular Economy and Quality of Life program, will be used to support the Desalination for Environmental Sustainability and LIFE (DESALIFE) project. 
 
The DESALIFE project plans to develop and deploy the first series of offshore desalination buoys off the coast of Gran Canaria, Spain. The aim is to have the initial pre-commercial buoys operational by mid-2026, which will produce fresh water for up to 15,000 locals. The initiative seeks to tackle water scarcity issues in the Canary Islands without a rise in energy consumption, CO2 emissions, or brine discharge.
