Sea2Cell

Sea2Cell, founded in 2021, is an Israeli food tech startup developing technology to produce cultivated fish meat. The company uses advanced cell-culturing technology to produce fish products through a proprietary process that enables cells to secrete their own growth factors, eliminating the need for expensive external growth factors and reducing production costs by up to 80%. The cells can divide within 24–30 hours, making them suitable for industrial-scale production. 

Sea2Cell focuses on affordable fish species including rainbow trout, gilthead seabream, and seabass. The company's technology allows for the isolation of cell lines that can differentiate into muscle tissue, maintaining this ability over advanced passages. 

The company plans to build its first pilot facility in 2026, with the intention of launching its first product in 2027. The initial products are expected to be hybrids combining cell-based and plant-based ingredients. It was considering various markets for launch, including the US, EU, China, India, and Japan, where fish consumption is high and consumer acceptance may be greater.

Key customers and partnerships

Sea2Cell has established partnerships with the Hebrew University of Jerusalem's Yissum tech transfer company and Profuse Technology, with the latter collaboration focused on accelerating muscle tissue development.
