Based in the Netherlands, Liquidseal offers a biodegradable thin protective coating made from vegetable raw materials for fruits, vegetables, and flowers. The coating is not edible and serves to function as packaging that extends shelf life and reduces food waste by controlling the evaporation process.
As of October 2024, trials have shown that Liquidseal is capable of reducing production losses by up to 30%. The company claims to reduce food waste and product waste by up to 40% across the supply chain while reducing pesticide and plastic usage.
The company’s first commercial launch was Liquidseal for lily bulbs. Since then, the company has launched Liquidseal as a postharvest application for carnations, gerberas, lily and tulip bulbs, and roses. Liquidseal for fruits was introduced in 2016 when the company launched its product for tropical fruits with hard skin such as avocados, citrus fruits, mango, and papaya. As of October 2024, the company was headquartered in Leiden, Netherlands, and worked with representatives and distributors in Spain, Turkey, South America (Ecuador, Colombia, Mexico), South Africa, and Kenya.
