AGADE is an Italian startup founded as a spin-off from Politecnico di Milano in 2020. The company has developed a patented semi-active exoskeleton technology called AGADE (Anti-Gravity Active Device for Exoskeletons) aimed at reducing muscle fatigue and work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WRMDs) among workers involved in manual material handling tasks.
AGADE's flagship product is the AGADEXO Shoulder, a semi-active upper-limb exoskeleton designed to reduce muscular effort in the shoulders during repetitive lifting, carrying, and lowering activities. It utilizes artificial intelligence algorithms to automatically recognize these tasks and provide support of up to 8 kg per arm through a hybrid actuation system combining coil springs and linear electric drives. This innovative approach minimizes power consumption, enabling a lightweight design weighing only 6 kg with a removable battery offering eight hours of autonomy.
The AGADEXO Shoulder is tailored for tasks involving payloads up to 25 kg within the upper body range, commonly encountered in manufacturing, automotive, food industry, logistics, and retail sectors. An independent study demonstrated that the exoskeleton can reduce muscular stress on the shoulders and back by up to 40% within specific manual material handling tasks. The device is CE marked and compliant with relevant machine and electromagnetic compatibility directives.
In addition to the AGADEXO Shoulder, AGADE is developing the AGADEXO Low-back module to address WRMDs in the lower back region. The company aims to create a modular product line covering different body regions to cater to diverse market needs.
