Ostrea Aquaculture AB is a Swedish company specializing in the cultivation of the European flat oyster (Ostrea edulis) on a large scale along the Bohus Coast. The company's core operations revolve around its hatchery, a production facility located on Koster Island, where oyster larvae are cultivated in a controlled environment. Ostrea Aquaculture employs advanced technology and methodology for breeding oysters and microalgae, which they have been developing since 2008. The company achieved a technical breakthrough in hatchery production in 2017. After the initial hatchery phase, the oysters are grown to maturity in basket cultures in the marine environment, a process that takes approximately three years.

The company's production facility is strategically located to utilize clean, oceanic seawater that flows into the Koster Fjord through a deep channel from the North Sea. This location, which is part of Sweden's only marine national park, provides access to the country's most species-rich waters, ideal for oyster cultivation. In September 2023, Ostrea Aquaculture implemented UNISOT's SeafoodChain solution, a blockchain-powered traceability system. This technology enables the creation of Digital Product Passports (DPP) for each oyster, containing detailed information about its lifecycle from larvae cultivation to microalgae feed production. The DPP allows Ostrea to share verifiable data with customers and regulatory bodies, enhancing transparency and compliance with industry standards. Customers can access this information by scanning a QR code, gaining insight into the oysters' journey without needing blockchain expertise.
