Waze struck a data-sharing agreement with Waycare,  a traffic management platform acquired by Rekor systems to combine anonymized navigation information crowdsourced from the 100 million drivers who use Waze with Waycare’s proprietary traffic analytics. The collaboration is now active in Nevada, Florida, California and Nevada, with plans to expand over the next year. It is part of Waze’s Connected Citizens Program, which gives cities around the world access to anonymized driver data to help them manage traffic and road infrastructure.

Founded in 2009, Waze is a crowd-sourced navigation app available in 60+ countries, through which users receive real-time updates on traffic conditions. The free-to-download app is available on mobiles and can be integrated into vehicle information and entertainment systems such as Apple CarPlay and Android Audio. The app primarily leverages monthly app users (~140 million as of December 2021), map editors (providing localized knowledge and language support in 50+ countries), and data exchange partners (3,000+ partners as of December 2021) to provide users with real-time updates on traffic conditions and road-related developments including accidents, road closures, crisis situations. 

Waze monetizes its app by advertising via its Waze Ads program, which, as of December 2021, includes 25,000+ businesses globally. Waze also entered into a data partnership agreement with WayCare, a traffic management solution, in 2018.
